Theatre Intime stands with the protesters and the many others fighting for racial justice. Theatre needs to be be a safe, healing, and inclusive space. We must prioritize Black theatre-makers and stories, and support broader anti-racist work. Our board is meeting this week to create a set of guidelines and action items to implement the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion into our work. We have not been an adequately anti-racist organization. Moreover, the American Theatre has a history of disenfranchising Black and POC folks, and Theatre Intime is part of that legacy. Our existence as an organization is based in systems of exclusion, oppression, and injustice. Theatre Intime is a 100 year-old institution-founded decades before Black students were even admitted to Princeton University. Our statement of solidarity comes from a place of privilege. The murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, Nina Pop, and countless others are part of the horrific and continuing legacy of state-sanctioned violence against Black people. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the anti-Black violence that has been brought to national attention in the past few weeks. However, everyone in our audience will be vaccinated, so we hope that with the combination of masking and vaccination you will still feel comfortable experiencing a thrilling year of live theater with us.
Although this policy is being updated regularly, Intime will require that audience members bring and wear a face covering (defined as “a manufactured or homemade mask that covers the nose and mouth with at least two layers of fabric and does not have an exhalation valve”) when attending an Intime show this year, both for your own safety, the safety of our performers, and for the safety of audience members around you.Ĭonsidering the size of our intimate 200-person theater, if you wish to social distance from other audience members, Theatre Intime cannot guarantee that your seat during our performances will be six feet away from everyone else in the space. As of September 21st, 2021, the guidelines require everyone, regardless of vaccination status, to be masked when inside a University building. In addition, masking guidance is being determined on a weekly basis by the Princeton University Health & Safety department. These forms are required on our ticketing website in order to purchase tickets, and if you purchase tickets in person you will be asked to fill one out at the Intime Box Office. This year, Theatre Intime will be following the guidelines set forth by Princeton University on masking, off-campus visitors, and performing arts.Ĭurrently, the University has indicated that off-campus audience members are welcome at shows on-campus, but will be required to sign a vaccination self-attestation form.
Although we are encouraged by the rising national vaccination rates and subsequent return to many activities previously restricted by the pandemic, including our beloved theater, the health and safety of our performers and audience is our first priority.
